Welcome

Welcome to Bikram's Beginning Hatha Yoga class, a challenging series of 26 postures and two breathing exercises suitable for all ages and levels of ability. Each posture stretches and strengthens specific muscles, ligaments and joints needed for the next posture. The Bikram method also stimulates the organs, glands and nerves, systematically moving fresh oxygenated blood to 100 percent of the body. The result is a restoration of health of all systems of the body, including the brain.

Bikram Choudhury designed this 90-minute yoga series to deliver total health through the balancing and strengthening of every system in the body in order to prevent illness, injury, promote weight loss and limit the effects of aging. The series is done in a heated room in order to warm your muscles allowing for a deeper, safer stretch, and to cleanse the body of toxins. Bikram Yoga ultimately combines skills of concentration, patience, determination and self-control, leading to increased mental clarity and reduced stress.

About Bikram Choudhury

Bikram Choudhury began his study of yoga in his native India at the age of four. He soon met his guru, Bishnu Ghosh, who was one of the greatest physical culturalists of our time and is the brother of Paramahansa Yogananda, author of "Autobiography of a Yogi". Paramahansa Yogananda was on of the greatest spiritual figures of modern India. Bikram has infused the wisdom of this tradition into his beginning yoga series. Bikram has been referred to as "yoga raj" which means King of the Yogi and is known to be one of the preeminent yoga masters alive today. In a United Nations sponsored research project at Tokyo University, Bikram helped doctors prove that yoga regenerates tissues and cures chronic ailments.

Combining Eastern discipline and Western medicine, Bikram perfected his comprehensive yoga series, suitable for all ages and levels of fitness and providing one-hundred percent exercise for the human body. The Bikram method of yoga has been approved by the American Medical Association. Bikram came to the U.S. in 1973 and since then, has healed thousands of students at his school in Los Angeles and his yoga has touched millions worldwide.
